Sports Personality of the Year in the South East
Last month I appealed to you to phone and support a young lady who has touched many lives, and those who can say they are privileged to know her.
When we first met Anna Hemmings, she was fighting to beat Chronic Fatique Syndrome but it didn't stop her becoming a world champion - 6 times - in Kayak racing.
Anna is a true inspirational lady but this was one competition she could not win on her own. Thanks to all of you who phoned to support her nomination for Sports Personality of the Year in the South East - I am delighted to tell you Anna has won the top price - she was in great company - but our lady is numero uno. I cannot tell you all how proud I am of Anna, and how grateful I am to all of you who voted.
Anna says she received 44% of the votes beating beating Simon Shaw (2nd place), Mark Ramprakash (3rd place) and Christina Ohuruogu (4th). Personal message to you from Anna: "I would like to say a massive thanks to everyone who voted for me, I really appreciate your support.

Anna Hemming nominated for Award
Anna Hemmings - good friend of Mary Flavelle has been nominated for an award in this year's BBC London's Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Anna is an exceptional young lady who also fights Chronic Fatique Syndrome, but she is totally at the top of her tree. Anna holds World Champion title - 6 times and is the only female - any gender- to win a gold at Doubles and Singles in the one day in her chosen sport of Kayak racing. If you have ever seen Kayak racing you might recall seeing the people fighting agianst the froth on a down hill run in water hitting all those hanging slalom lines - well it is nothing like that. Kayak racing involves the Kayak being raced against others - then the contestant gets out of the boat - pick it up over his or her head and run to another venue where the Kayak is returned to the water and race continues. It is an exhaustive sport and Anna is THE Champion - she needs our support.
