1st Birthday of SHEplc
Businesses are still not back to normal, but most women at this lunch had great stories to tell. Many had seen growth in customer base. Some were glad they had survived the year and others had done really well, as their skills came into play when larger companies were forfeiting headcount.
There is never a better time to start a business than in a recession, people will help you. Those who are made redundant have no choice but to find a positive attitude about thier situation. Depressing it certainly is, but you need to deal with it as quickly as possible and get back out there. This is a time to be whatever you want to be, and do what you really want to do - and you are the boss. There are many friends out there networking away, and promoting themselves and their skills or products.
Do remember one great bit of advice from Zig Zigler: If you go out to find friends - it will take a long time, if you go out to be a friend - you will have many. Remember that the next time you head off for a networking meeting.
Listen to others and learn.
